Ethnicity
Nearly all of the people of Honduras today are ethnically "mestizo," a combination of American Indians and Europeans (primarily Spanish). Of the rest of the people in the country, most are either wholly American Indian or African.
Language
The only official language in Honduras is Spanish, as nearly the entire population speaks this language natively. There are also dozens of American Indian languages that are spoken natively in homes, with many of these people learning Spanish as a second language.
Spanish is a Romance language also spoken in Spain; it is closely related to other Romance languages, including Portuguese, Italian, French, Romanian, others. The dialect of Spanish in Honduras is quite distinct in comparison to that of Spain and there are also many minor differences in the language across Latin America.
